All information about the B196 certificate

What is the driving license with B196 extension?

If you have a Class B driving license, a world of possibilities opens up for you. Not only are you allowed to drive cars, but you also have permission to drive trailers with a maximum weight of 750 kg. In addition, with the B driving license you automatically have the driving license classes AM and L, which gives you the opportunity to drive many mopeds and agricultural tractors up to a speed of 40 km/h.

Since the beginning of 2020, there has been the key number 196, which you can use to extend your driving privileges. With the B196 extension you have permission to drive light motorcycles up to 125 cc and an engine output of a maximum of 11 kW. The ratio of power to weight must not be higher than 0.1 kW/kg.

Expanding your driving license to include the key number 196 opens up a variety of new opportunities for you. You can now drive lighter two-wheelers with a higher engine power and therefore cover longer distances. In addition, it allows you to travel in the city more flexibly and in a more environmentally friendly way, for example.

What are the requirements?

In order to be approved for the B196 extension, there are certain requirements that you must meet. You must be at least 25 years old and have 5 years of driving experience. You also need a valid class B driving license.

It is important that you meet these requirements to ensure safety on the road. Sufficient experience in driving vehicles is essential in order to maintain control of the vehicle and be able to react appropriately in the event of unforeseen events.

If you meet these requirements and are interested in the B196 extension, you should inform yourself thoroughly about the requirements and, if necessary, complete a training or preparation course in order to be optimally prepared for the exam. This way you can ensure that you meet the requirements and travel safely and responsibly on the roads.

How much does the B196 note cost?

The cost of purchasing the B196 extension may vary depending on the region and driving school. As a rule, the costs for training and testing range between €500 and €1,000. These costs are made up of various factors, such as the duration of the training, the number of driving lessons required and the cost of the test.

In addition to the training costs, there is also a fee of around €40, which must be paid to the responsible driving license office. This fee is used to process the application for an extension of the driving license and is independent of the costs for training and testing.

There may also be other costs, for example if you have to have new passport photos taken. You should expect additional costs of around €10 to €50, depending on where and how you have the pictures taken.

What about lessons? How often do I have to go to driving school?

At least 5 teaching units of 90 minutes each must be carried out!

Do I need an eye test certificate or first aid course?

An important question that many people ask when it comes to extending their driving license concerns the need for additional training or evidence. However, in the case of the B196 extension, no additional first aid course or eye test is required.

Since this is an extension of an existing driving license, it is assumed that you already have the necessary knowledge and skills to drive safely and responsibly.
